Pilgrims
Back in the village of Manigango, we meet a memorable crew: two monks in the prime of life, well built and well shod escorting a nun aged and disabled. It is installed in a cart carelessly, surrounded by quilts, pulled and pushed by two monks. And the crew departed for a pilgrimage to Ganzi Lhasa! They only have just over 1000 km to go! And before them a first pass at over 5000 m, Col Trol that we will take tomorrow (by bus!). How many days to cross the pass? Where do they sleep? Fool!
Tro La Pass
For two hours, we expect the public bus to Dege. It seems he is stuck on the road ... We accept the proposals of the driver of a mini-van already loaded with 3 monks and numerous packages. This small vehicle (the wheels are the same as my Twingo) blithely crosses the neck Trol to 5050m with laces and an incredible track rammed earth. The road is well marked, but it is dug deep potholes and we imagine DongFeng heavily laden trucks crossing this barrier in the winter snow and ice. The scenery is beautiful throughout the other.
Dege
Dege is a small Chinese town in appearance but the Tibetans are the majority. It is set in a ravine, oriented North-South, where three very deep valleys. From the hotel window stuck in the mountains, we see the sun just 10 hours. The dwellings are of recent construction: the buildings of 8 to 10 floors, which accentuate the impression of deep throat. The city is very noisy and pollution constant. We stay in the only hotel open to foreigners, where we are 2 beds in a dormitory.
